TEKKEN 6
Sony and Namco demonstrate a few seconds of the King of Iron Fist... or at least a few seconds of a character.
by Ivan Sulic
May 16, 2005 - Jin Kazama has dominated the Tekken franchise ever since he first appeared in the series' third iteration (for arcades and PSOne). Now he's the poster boy for Namco's next-generation of fighting.
Though the PlayStation 3 unveiling at Sony's fabulously successful press conference featured supposed gameplay clips of some incredibly impressive software (if we don't get Warhawk right damn now, many thousands of people will die horribly at our feet), Namco only offered up a very small portion of its next Tekken title, simply called...Tekken.
Jin is a steaming, sweating, glistening man. He's either standing in a meat locker or fire is pumping through his veins because the kid is just smoldering. As the demo starts, the camera swoops around a black room devoid of life. We then pass by Jin, all alone. We're swept downward and treated to a good look at his gloved hands and are then promptly blinded by the white brilliance that shoots off his fancily crafted and immaculately polished silvery emblems.
Next we're shown his tightly knit trousers, textured like a thick, worn Karate gi. As we tilt up, Jin flexes every muscle in his incredibly fit body, which ripples and shimmers as beads of sweat form and roll down his smoking skin.
As the camera swoops around Jin flashes his arm in a strike faster than lighting. The speed and force perfectly propel every droplet of sweat off his forearm. Then the camera zooms in on his face. Soaked in sweat, his pores and freckles become apparent, but his look is terrifyingly determined. As we zoom out for a more complete image, we see that Jin is standing in an empty room. Ready. Waiting.
That's it. You can pass out now.
Not seeing any environments or actual fighting was a bit of a disappointment, but the sheer level of quality...the pure amazing detail of Jin...grief. It's uncanny. If it's in-game, it's damn impressive. Now check out the video.
